Sweet and Savory Cooking and Baking Around the World (4th-8th grade)

Does your child enjoy eating a variety of different cuisines, or maybe you are looking for some new, easy and fun recipes especially for kids that they will want to cook and recreate at home? Well, here is an opportunity for your child to learn, cook and enjoy sampling sweet and savory recipes from around the world, during this weekly  after school delicious and exciting culinary adventure! From grocery shopping tips, storing food, menu planning, prepping, trying out new recipes and ingredients, understanding your culinary interests and senses, cutting to mincing, baking, plating and serving techniques, knife skills, food safety and cleaning up, these cooking classes designed just for kids are the perfect blend of learning professional cooking and baking techniques. These are interactive cooking classes, so there will always be time for learning, questions and answers.

The sweet and savory recipes that will be taught include:

Thanksgiving Vegetable and Potato Casserole and Pumpkin Pie

Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala 

Ramen and Carrot Cupcakes

Eggplant Parmesan and Cinnamon Rolls

Spinach and Cheese Muffins and Sticky Rice with Mango

Fish Tacos and Monkey Bread

Ricotta and Vegetable Stuffed Manicotti Pasta Shells and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Turkey and 3-Bean Chili and Victoria Sponge Cake

Meatball Soup and Berry Cobbler

Chicken Cordon Bleu and Lemon Pound Cake

For the final class the student chefs will be given the opportunity to plan the menu.

All ingredients and email recipe copies will be provided.      

Classes are offered Thursdays and Fridays, and the same recipes will be taught each day.

For the final Friday class on December 6, this class will be two hours in duration from 3:30pm-5:30pm. So, both Thursdays and Fridays have a total of ten class hours.

Chef Meenu teaches cooking and baking classes to adults and children. She teaches a multitude of cuisines, and her specialty is Indian cuisine. This fall, Chef Meenu will be teaching twelve cooking classes a week at La Entrada School, Las Lomitas School, The Phillips Brooks School, Woodland School, as well as to a group of homeschooled children. Chef Meenu has worked at several cooking schools including, Sur La Table, Draeger’s and the Jewish Community Center.  Chef Meenu is also the mother of two La Entrada graduates!
